Marvin Boerboom



Renville County Farm Family of the Year Awarded to
Mike Sullivan Family

The Renville County "Farm Family of the Year" was awarded to the entire Mike Sullivan Family. Mike and Jane plus their three sons and families. Tim and Sara, Pat and Jolynn, Joe and April, and their daughter Molly and Tom Lorang.

The Renville County "Distinguished Service Award" was given to Marvin Boerboom, a local corn breeder who was awarded the very first National Association of Plant Breeder " Commercial Impact Award". He worked in Olivia for DeKalb and then Monsanto. Under his guidance 156+ different hybrids contributing 62+ million bags hybrid corn sales are attributed to his work. He has 66+ inbred patents and 34 inbred patents pending. He told us that some local student working in his research plot is responsible for doing the pollination cross the right way as one yielded over $2 billion in seed sales.
